Meet the class of 2026
In 2019 we took in our largest ever group of Year 8 pupils. Take a moment to read about the experience some of them have had during their first few months in Sperrin College.

Learning Tutor Group: 8BC Primary School: Magherafelt Primary School What you love about Sperrin so far: “So far at Sperrin I’ve loved all the classes and the food! The teachers are really nice!” Favourite Class: “My favourite class is PE because I love being active and I love sports. I also love Art, because I like to be creative.” Favourite Teacher: “My favourite teacher is Miss McCloskey because I think she is really fun.” Biggest Challenge: “My biggest challenge so far was coming in and having to make new friends.” Meet Grace.

Learning Tutor Group: 8BC Primary School: Carhill Integrated Primary School What you love about Sperrin so far: “I love switching classes” Favourite Class: “My favourite class is Home Economics because I love cooking and when we make food it is so good!” Favourite Teacher: My favourite teacher is Mr Alexander, because he is an Art teacher and I love Art.” Biggest Challenge: “All the homework is a challenge, because there is so much to get used to!” Meet Oliver.

The teachers are humorous and helpful.” Favourite Class: “My favourite class is Maths with Miss McGregor. We are able to play fun maths games and work.” Biggest Challenge: “The biggest challenge has been coming to a new school, knowing no-one and having to make new friends. Learning Tutor Group: 8BC Primary School: Ampertaine Controlled Primary School What you love about Sperrin so far: “I love how all the classes are easy enough to find and if you do need help another student will tell you where it is.” Favourite Class: “My favourite classes are either Learning for Life and Work or Drama” Meet Katie.
Learning Tutor Group: 8BC Primary School: Phoenix Integrated Primary & Nursery School, Cookstown What you love about Sperrin so far: “I love all the clubs. I do netball on Monday, Eco Club on Tuesday and Drama Club on Thursday. I try to get involved in as many clubs as I can.” Favourite Class: “My favourite class is Drama, I like this class because I have always been a performer”. Biggest Challenge: "Homework!" Learning Tutor Group: 8JM Primary School: Spires Integrated Primary School What you love about Sperrin so far: “The independence you get and all the different classes that you are able to attend. I love the space outside to play and all the teachers are so nice and friendly. I also love the school dinners.” Favourite class: “I love French, Art, PE, English, Maths and Science – I can’t pick just one” Biggest Challenge: Maths! Meet James.
Learning Tutor Group: 8JH Primary School: Maine Integrated Primary School What you love about Sperrin so far: “I really like that you get to move class every 50 minutes and don’t just stay in the same classroom all day like primary school. There are so many people that have the same interests as me – I Iove that I now get to be friends with lots of fellow ‘anime’ fans! I love the selection of food in the canteen. I also really like that you are treated like more mature people.” Favourite Class: “My favourite class is Art by far, it is so good because you can draw and shade and sketch, it is unreal!” Meet Fintan.
Learning Tutor Group: 8BC Primary School: Loughview Integrated Primary What you love about Sperrin so far: “I think PE is really good. A new thing to me is moving classes, but I enjoy it. There’s a lot of people and I have made new friends." Favourite Class: “My favourite class is PE because we do Gaelic, basketball and also running, which is a sport I do outside of school.” Favourite Teacher: “Mr Hastings, because he is funny and encouraging.” Biggest challenge: “Keeping up with the homework is hard – it’s such a big step-up.” Meet Cayla.
