Moving Image Arts
Teaching Staff:
Sperrin College is the main provider of Moving Image Arts in the Magherafelt Learning Partnership and has enjoyed great success, winning 4 Foyle Film Festival awards in recent years. Delivered in the Art & Design Department, the subject is well resourced with a dedicated Mac Suite, lighting room, assortment of DSLR Cameras and access to industry standard software.
It can be said that no art or communication form is as influential, powerful or prolific in the modern era as the art of Moving Images. From film and television programming to advertising and web streaming, it’s a medium that resonates with people because its combination of all other art forms (performance, visual, physical, musical, lyrical, textual) most closely approximates the limitless creativity of our own dreams.
"Film as dream, film as music. No art passes our conscience in the way film does and goes directly to our feelings, deep down into the dark rooms of our souls". Ingmar Bergman, Director
Our students enjoy the opportunity of studying the theory behind film and putting this knowledge into practice by creating their own short films - whether live action or animation.
