LEARNING FOR LIFE AND WORK

Teaching Staff:

The Northern Ireland Curriculum aims to ‘empower young people to achieve their potential and to make informed and responsible decisions throughout their lives’. Learning for Life and Work contributes directly to this by helping young people develop as individuals and as contributors to society, the economy and the environment.

Learning for Life and Work is a compulsory part of our Key Stage 3 curriculum with all students completing study into the three strands of Personal Development, Citizenship and Employability.
At KS3 it is an engaging and relevant curriculum for young people that:
  • Helps them develop as individuals and members of society;
  • Delivers the skills and capabilities needed for adult life and work;
  • Helps them cope with the changing global economy; and
  • Helps them learn how to make informed choices.

The GCSE in LLW has been designed to address the Northern Ireland Key Stage 4 Curriculum requirements for:
  • Local and Global Citizenship
  • Personal Development
  • Employability
The structure of the course is as follows:
Three externally assessed modules- 60%
  • Local and Global Citizenship
  • Personal Development
  • Employability
One internally assessed controlled assessment selected from one of the above units- 40%

Extra-Curicular
A trip to Parliament Buildings at Stormont for Year 11 Citizenship pupils has become a fixture on the school calendar. On occasions, local entrepreneurs come into school to give presentations to our pupils and we also have visiting speakers for topics such as Road Safety (including Translink’s Child Safety Bus & the PSNI), Internet Safety and Drugs Awareness.
